Where did the year go?! I cannot believe it is already the end of December! It’s getting cold here in New York, and I’m really looking forward to the new year. Not only because I’m ready to bid 2018 adieu, but also because UXPA International has some amazing things in store for you. But first, let me recap some of what we have done in 2018.
My mission, as the UXPA International President, has been to bring more resources to UX practitioners. Well, I am proud to say we have done exactly that!
Our Education program continues to be a great success. In 2018, we had 10 webinars, four short courses, and we introduced a new initiative, the Experts Panel. Jana took our education program to a new level this year by getting all previous webinars up onto our YouTube channel.
Our Publications team excelled this year, publishing five issues of User Experience Magazine and four issues of the Journal of Usability Studies. Claudia led efforts to index the journal in the Web of Science Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCU), a major step for academic usability researchers. Journals accepted for coverage in ESCI must be peer reviewed, follow ethical publishing practices, meet technical requirements, have English language bibliographic information, and be recommended or requested by a scholarly audience of Web of Science users. This is an accomplishment that took tremendous effort and we are proud to have our journal indexed.
And let’s not forget about our conference in Puerto Rico. We were not sure how many of you would come since many of you had concerns about the island after the storms. But in the end, this conference exceeded our expectations. So many of you joined us, we learned a lot, and we had fun! The sun was shining, people were engaged and in great spirits, and we had lots of new content. And we had live music at our opening reception! In addition, in lieu of attendee swag, we made a donation to support relief efforts. Thank you to all for supporting Puerto Rico and the UXPA International.
It’s been a really great year and I’m proud of all the 2018 Board and our amazing volunteers have accomplished.
We have some changes in store for 2019.
- I’ll be stepping down as President, and I’ll be going back into the Director of Marketing and Communications role.
- Sara Mastro will move from VP to President. She will continue to have the Director of Events role.
- Jana Pantoja will become the new VP and will move from Director of Education to Director of Partnerships and Sponsorships.
- Lauren Schaefer will move from Director of Marketing and Communications to Director of Web.
- Kendell Warner will move from Regional Director of North America to Director of Chapters
- Carmen McDonald will join the Board as Director of Education.
We are sad to see Rajesh Kalidindi and Brian Mills go as they complete their terms on the Board. Both have been instrumental parts of Team Doers, and I know I speak for the rest of the Board when I say that they will be missed. Thank you Rajesh and Brian for your services, your collaboration, and your thought partnership.
Stay tuned for more about what’s to come for UXPA International in the new year. Team Doers will not disappoint!
I wish everyone a healthy, happy 2019.
